Thanksgiving Half Marathon

Curtis and I completed a half marathon last Saturday. I know, not a big deal to a former Ironman....but a big deal to me. The longest I had run was a 10 K, or 6.2 miles.....so 13.1 was a long way. My goal was to finish in 2 hours and 30 minutes, and we both slid under the wire at 2 hours and 27 minutes. Curtis was fabulous and stayed with me the whole way. As you can see from the pic, we were bundled up. It was a lovely 39 degrees and snowing when we started. So much for spring. It did end up warming up slightly, so we shed a few layers along the way. Next up for me is my 100 mile bike ride the first week of June. Maybe the weather will cooperate now????

Finally! Our addition pictures!

As I said on the last post, our addition is basically complete. The last few finish details left to go. We have moved in, and are loving the new space upstairs. The basement will stay unfinished for now, as we are officially out of money. It has been awhile since photos, so I thought I would show you the kitchen transformation in stages, but first, here is the concrete pour for the patio, hot tub pad, basement stairs and concrete between both of our retaining walls and the house.

Our life was eventful with the new addition, but it didn't really become completely consuming until the kitchen wall came down. The cabinets left shortly after. Here are a few pics of the demolished wall between the old and new kitchen.

The kids said they were going to miss the old kitchen, but I can't say I will. I have been waiting for a larger, nicer kitchen for 6 years now. Here are Kaylynn, Kallee and Kaden hanging out in the old kitchen.

Kitchen/Dining Room after all cabinets were removed....next break up the tile and start putting it back together. Let me just say that at this point we were eating in an unfinished basement with only a microwave. We had to go upstairs to get anything out of the fridge, and we washed dishes in the bathtub. Eating and cooking became extremely inconvenient, worse than I had expected. We ended up leaving on the weekends, because camping was nicer than living in our home at this point.

Here is the kitchen after all the drywall was complete, awaiting paint and hardwood floors. If you see on the far right in the first picture, the diagonal section of wall. That is where my old kitchen ended and the outside house wall was. They extended the lower kitchen ceiling out to where the new kitchen ends, and then we have higher ceilings in the new dining and family room. Basically my new kitchen tripled in size. I took over the old dining area, and added 6 more feet into the new addition. I am so spoiled! The far section where there are still a couple of cabinets is our mudroom. It became slightly larger by expanding a bit into the old kitchen, to allow more room there as well.

Here are our beautiful new cabinets being put in, knotty hickory. It has been surprising that Curtis and I have agreed on everything in this new house. There has not been one instance that we could not agree on new items: lighting, tile, cabinets, flooring. You name it. Curtis said that our marriage has already survived a ton of problems with his ex, my ex, his kids, my kids, his baggage, my baggage. We added addition onto it, and we have come out beautifully. It's nice to have someone so compatible and wonderful! You can kind of see our new hardwood floors as well. They are wonderful! They tapered them into the old hardwood in the front room and then refinished that front section, and you would never know that it is not all the same. We were out of our home for 5 days while we had them refinished. Thanks to Curtis' parents who put up with us in their basement!

Ok, here it is, the finished product. The yard is still a mess, but is going to have to wait for next Spring to have a new sprinkler system and sod in. The exterior stucco turned out nice, and we are happy with how the wainscoat brick ties into the old front brick.

Here is our Master. We choose a open concept for the bed/bath. The kids think this is quite strange and funny and keep asking when we are going to put up a wall.
Frankly, I love it. We can hang out in the tub and watch a movie at the same time. The other perk is that our bedroom is a "do not enter unless invited" area now. That means that the kids stay out of it most of the time. It is nice to have a adult haven, so to speak.

Dining area

Family Room, we need a sectional, but since we just bought blinds and barstools, it will have to wait.

And finally, here is my gorgeous kitchen! The kids love sitting at the bar, and the kids can spread out during homework time as well. Hope you enjoy the pics, and if you happen to be in the area...drop by anytime to see the real thing.
